Caring Men Global, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting male caregivers facing a loved one’s cancer, has received a grant from Exelixis to launch “Strong Caregivers, Stronger Survivors,” a caregiver-centered cancer recurrence prevention program designed to prepare men to effectively support cancer survivors following treatment.
Survivors are often most vulnerable after active treatment ends, when medical oversight decreases and responsibility for prevention, monitoring, and daily health management shifts to the home. Yet many male caregivers report lacking the knowledge and confidence needed to provide effective support.
Research from the National Cancer Institute found that many cancer caregivers experience high levels of emotional stress and are often expected to perform medical or nursing tasks without feeling fully prepared or trained. Grant funding from Exelixis will support the development and expansion of structured training, educational materials, and community-based programming designed to equip caregivers with essential skills.
“I built Caring Men Global because I lived it. The panic when you don’t know what to do, the helplessness of watching someone you love go through cancer and feeling like you’re falling short. No man should have to figure that out alone. This relationship with Exelixis gives us the resources to make sure they don’t have to,” said Stephen D. Peck, Founder of Caring Men Global.
Caring Men Global offers a wide range of caregiver support resources, including a free searchable database of healthcare professionals, educational materials, mental health and wellness resources, clinical trial information, and a comprehensive cancer library that helps caregivers better understand their loved one’s diagnosis.
Through its agreement with Exelixis, Caring Men Global aims to expand access to caregiver education and strengthen survivorship support for families navigating cancer care beyond treatment.
