The seasonal, limited-time flavor pairs figs, dates, and chia seeds for sweet and savory applications
BROOKLYN, NY, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today, Smash Foods, the brand rethinking jam and snacks, debuts Figgy Superfood Fruit Spread. Crafted with the brand’s proprietary blend of chia seeds and dates, the new spread brings the Smash Foods’ most-requested new flavor to shelves. Figgy Superfood Fruit Spread feels equally at home alongside savory snack boards, swirled into yogurt, or as a topping to pizza.
The launch has been years in the making. Smash Foods co-founder Steve Ford began developing the recipe in 2023, and it quickly became a favorite among the team. Through roughly 20 iterations, Ford experimented with different fig varietals and fine-tuned the balance of fruit, sweetness, and texture until he landed on the perfect balance. The final product harnesses the natural sweetness of dates—the spread’s only sweetener—without letting their rich flavor overpower the more delicate figs.
As Ford puts it, “Fig is a flavor we’ve always wanted to create, but getting it right the Smash way took some work. Like all our fruit spreads, our goal is to keep the fruit’s flavor true and delicious, without loading it with added sugar. After a lot of tinkering with Figgy, we landed on one we couldn’t stop eating.”
The result is a spread made with 93% figs, naturally sweetened with dates and finished with chia seeds for texture. With no added sugar and nothing artificial, Figgy Superfood Fruit Spread has a rich, jammy texture and fruit-forward sweetness that lets the figs shine, perfect with everything from creamy cheeses to crusty bread. The spread is made with just six ingredients: figs, dates, chia seeds, lemon juice concentrate, fruit pectin, and rowanberry extract.
The flavor also answers demand Smash has been hearing directly from its community, since Fig became the brand’s #1 most-requested flavor after the launch of Very Berry in February of this year. With Figgy, Smash is taking that enthusiasm beyond breakfast and snacking into hosting and entertaining, perfect for the upcoming holiday season. The spread is an easy add to cheese boards, Friendsgiving spreads, recipes, and other holiday occasions.
The launch will coincide with on-premise partnerships at Decades Pizza in Ridgewood, Queens and Regina’s Grocery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Both restaurants will debut limited-time menu items highlighting the new Figgy Superfood Fruit Spread.
Smash Foods Figgy Superfood Fruit Spread retails for $7.49 and launches November 4 at Whole Foods Market nationwide and online, following an October debut at Misfits Market. The product is expected to arrive at Sprouts in February 2027 and will remain available year-round at select retailers.
About Smash Foods
Smash Foods makes fruit spreads and snacks that stick–– with ingredients that do more for you, like dates, chia, and hearty seed and nut butters. Founded in Brooklyn in 2019 by Anna Peck and Steve Ford, the brand was born from a simple question: why should jam have to be 55% sugar? Their answer is a signature Superfood Fruit Spread made with real fruit, sweetened by dates and powered by chia seeds. Built with simple, recognizable ingredients and nothing artificial, Smash Foods delivers a fruit-forward, feel-good alternative to a long-under-innovated category. It was so good, they couldn’t keep it in the jar. Smash Foods has since expanded into a growing lineup of snacks, including creamy nut and seed butter Protein Bites with a jammy filling. With real ingredients, radical simplicity, and flavors the whole family craves, Smash Foods proves that eating well doesn’t have to feel like a compromise.
